Hudson Bay now has more capacity for long term care, with a five-bed expansion of the Hudson Bay Health Care Facility.
Health Minister Len Taylor joined representatives from Kelsey Trail Regional Health Authority and local municipalities to officially open the building extension at an afternoon ceremony.
"Saskatchewan has a health care system we can be proud of," Taylor said. "This expansion project is part of the government's significant investment in new and upgraded health care facilities, to increase access and better deliver future health care services."
"We are very pleased to see the completion of the Hudson Bay Health Care Facility long term care bed expansion project," Kelsey Trail Regional Health Authority chair Carol Hayward said. "This expansion will allow area residents to receive care in their home community close to family and friends."
"The addition of five long-term care beds in our Hudson Bay facility is very rewarding and accommodating for our community," Hudson Bay mayor Elvina Rumak said. "We are very pleased with this addition, as it will retain five more residents within their familiar surroundings and within their circle of friends and family members."
The $770,000 project increases the health facility's capacity from 15 long-term care beds and two respite beds to 20 long-term care beds and two respite beds. Aizer Construction of Fort Qu'Appelle finished the project on time and on budget.
Funding for the new hospital came from Saskatchewan Health and Kelsey Trail Health Region, with contributions from the Town of Hudson Bay and the Rural Municipality of Hudson Bay.
