SASKPOWER INVITES MOOSE JAW RESIDENTS TO DO THE TWIST

SaskPower invites Moose Jaw residents to do the twist and learn about ways they can reduce their electricity consumption and save money.

SaskPower will be giving away 3,000 compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) at the Town and Country Mall in Moose Jaw, to the first 3,000 customers who drop by on Sunday, from 12 noon until 5 p.m. The giveaway features a 23-watt CFL bulb. These CFLs are equivalent to a 100-watt incandescent light bulb, but use 75 per cent less energy to produce the same amount of light.

"This giveaway is an excellent way to highlight the contribution that CFLs can make to not only reducing household power bills, but also to curbing global warming," Moose Jaw North MLA Glenn Hagel said on behalf of Minister responsible for SaskPower John Nilson. "I am delighted to see Moose Jaw embracing this technology. If every Saskatchewan household was to replace a conventional 100-watt bulb with a 23-watt CFL,we would save enough electricity to power more than 7,000 homes for an entire year."

This event is part of SaskPower's ongoing efforts to help customers find ways to manage their power costs and reduce their impact on the environment. This month, SaskPower is giving away 15,000 CFLs at five locations: Regina; North Battleford; Prince Albert; Moose Jaw and Yorkton. Earlier this year, SaskPower partnered with the City of Saskatoon and Saskatoon Light and Power to giveaway 8,000 bulbs in that city.

Over the past two years, SaskPower has implemented a number of educational campaigns in order to provide customers with information they can use to save money, reduce their power bill and minimize their impact on the environment.
