INVESTING IN PROVINCIAL PARKS

Released on September 17, 2007

The Government of Saskatchewan is investing close to $1 million to replace the campground washrooms at Rowan's Ravine and Echo Valley Provincial Parks.

"We recognize that Echo Valley and Rowan's Ravine Provincial Parks are extremely popular camping destinations for Saskatchewan families and our young people," Environment Minister John Nilson said. "As part of our commitment to park facility improvements and Saskatchewan's Green Strategy, these facilities will be replaced and will receive several energy efficient features, providing park visitors with safe, clean and environmentally friendly public facilities."

Construction to replace the facilities, which began this month, will include various energy efficient features and provide for improved access for people with disabilities. It will include new toilets, washrooms, showers and laundry facilities to serve park visitors.

Echo Valley and Rowan's Ravine have both experienced a steady increase in park visitation over the past few years. The main campground washroom facilities at these locations are more than 35 years old and have deteriorated significantly due to heavy use and general exposure to the elements.
