The Rural Municipality (RM) of Meeting Lake will benefit from $88,274 in combined federal and provincial funding for an infrastructure project through the Canada-Saskatchewan Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF).
This $176,550 project will involve clay capping and resurfacing a portion of grid road connecting to Highway 40 to repair damage from semi-trucks and local traffic. It is expected to improve road safety year round.
The investment was announced today by Saskatoon Fairview MLA Andy Iwanchuk on behalf of Government Relations Minister Harry Van Mulligen and Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Wanuskewin on behalf of the Honourable Rona Ambrose, President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of Western Economic Diversification, announced the investment today.
"This project will have tangible benefits for residents of the RM of Meeting Lake, and I'm proud that the provincial government is contributing through MRIF," Iwanchuk said. "Funding important infrastructure projects like this is one way our government is making life better for Saskatchewan families."
"Canada's New Government is getting things done for people in the RM of Meeting Lake," said Vellacott. "This joint investment will result in a safer access route to major highways for area residents. We are committed to working in partnership to modernize Canada's infrastructure."
Under the initial Canada-Saskatchewan MRIF Agreement, the federal and provincial governments committed a combined $76 million to the fund, with participating communities contributing one-half of all costs, raising the total infrastructure investment to over $152 million.
This year, Canada's New Government and the Government of Saskatchewan have provided an additional $14.9 million to the fund as part of their commitment to help smaller communities meet their infrastructure needs. This additional funding brings the total federal and provincial investment in MRIF projects to over $90.9 million.
These projects are an example of how MRIF is supporting a stronger, safer and better province through projects that provide cleaner air and water, a stronger economy and a higher quality of life for our communities.
Before receiving final approval, community projects undergo a review process under both the Canadian Environment Assessment Act and The Environmental Assessment Act (Saskatchewan).
