14 SASKATCHEWAN EMPLOYERS SAY FAMILY-FRIENDLY PRACTICES KEEP EMPLOYEES

Released on September 6, 2007

A new publication telling the story of several Saskatchewan workplaces successfully helping employees to balance work and family responsibilities was released in Regina today.

The publication, Saskatchewan Work & Family Balance Awards - 2005 Award Winners and Honour Roll Members, details the work done by 14 Saskatchewan workplaces to become more family friendly.

The publication was made possible by a partnership between the Balancing Work and Family Alliance in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan Labour's Work and Family Unit.

"We are more aware today than ever of the stress people face as they struggle to balance responsibilities at home and work," Labour Minister David Forbes said. "But family-friendly workplaces make good business sense. We have seen that finding ways to help employees balance the demands of both work and family pays dividends in the marketplace, in the community, and in the home. Striking that balance is part of what makes Saskatchewan a great place to live for families, and a place where young people can build a strong future."

The publication showcases Saskatchewan workplaces in Yorkton, Melfort, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Regina

In releasing the publication, Labour Minister David Forbes also announced the second biennial Saskatchewan Work and Family Awards Gala will take place next April at the Hotel Saskatchewan in Regina.

Application forms for the 2007 Work and Family Awards will be available January 15 from Saskatchewan Labour offices in Regina and Saskatoon, and on the Work and Family web site at www.workandfamilybalance.com.
