The Government of Saskatchewan's Provincial Youth Advisory Committee (PYAC) is looking for new recruits to provide the Government of Saskatchewan with advice and guidance.
Over the last five years, PYAC has advised Government on youth attraction and retention, education, leadership, employment and training.
"The Provincial Youth Advisory Committee has played a vital role in ensuring that the needs and concerns of youth are reflected in government's policies," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Sandra Morin said. "By providing a means for youth to let their voices be heard, PYAC has paved the way for a stronger relationship between the leaders of today and tomorrow. PYAC continues to excel as a sterling example of youth and government working together in concrete ways to improve the province."
Membership on this committee gives participants the chance to learn about a variety of viewpoints and perspectives, refine their leadership ability, and interact with government's decision-makers. PYAC members will have the opportunity to review, enhance and shape public policy as it is created.
"Being a part of PYAC has allowed me to make a meaningful contribution to the areas that matter to me," PYAC co-chair Rick Rieger said. "Along the way, I've met a lot of great people from all over the province and experienced the inner workings of government. It's a great opportunity for young people and I would encourage anyone interested in making our province a better place to apply."
The committee's make-up is diverse, including members from urban, rural and northern communities as well as First Nations and Métis youth, visible minorities and youth with disabilities. There are 25 positions on the committee with eight vacancies needing to be filled.
"PYAC's strength is founded upon the diverse perspectives of its members," PYAC co-chair Cassie Nesbitt said. "We have a responsibility to the youth of Saskatchewan, to listen to their concerns and to learn from their lives."
Saskatchewan residents between the ages of 14 and 29 are encouraged to apply. Application forms are available on www.cyr.gov.sk.ca/PYAC. The deadline for applications is October 28, 2007.
