UPGRADING SCHOOLS IN NORTH BATTLEFORD

Released on October 2, 2007

The Government of Saskatchewan is investing $515,000 this year to improve two schools in North Battleford.

"We are committed to working together with the Living Sky and the Light of Christ School Divisions to provide healthy, comfortable and well equipped learning environments for North Battleford and area students," Health Minister and Battlefords MLA Len Taylor said on behalf of Learning Minister Deb Higgins. "When we invest in schools, we are investing in students and in the future of Saskatchewan."

The capital improvement projects include:

  • $400,000 to the Living Sky School Division for building system upgrades at North Battleford Comprehensive, including drainage improvements and a new chiller. The total government support to this project over two years was $1,085,000; and
  • $115,000 to the Light of Christ School Division for roofing upgrades to St. Mary.

The projects announced today are part of the Government of Saskatchewan's investment of $6.1 million to improve the learning environment in 34 Saskatchewan schools. These include improvements such as roof replacement and restoration, renovations, additions, mechanical system upgrades and building system upgrades. Funding for these projects will be cost-shared with school divisions across the province. Over the past five years the Government has invested $169.2 million in capital improvements to preK-12 schools.

"These school improvement projects are part of the government's commitment to make Saskatchewan the best place for young people to live, work and build strong futures," Taylor said.
