As a result of a power outage, there has been a system depressurization event at the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant. Saskatchewan Environment is informing people in the affected waterworks and pipelines of a Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory. This is a precautionary step resulting from the possibility of unknown bacteriological water quality from the depressurization event.
The affected waterworks include:
• Marquis Rural Water Users Inc
• Koch Fertilizers
• Buffalo Plaine Cattle Company
• Delahey
• Delahey Farms
• Parklane
• 8 Mile Pipeline Association
• Tuxford Rural Water Association
• Dufferin Water Association
At this time, Saskatchewan Environment cannot guarantee the quality of the drinking water in the affected areas. As a precaution, residents in the affected area are being asked to boil water used for activities where it may be ingested, including:
• brushing teeth or soaking false teeth
• dishwashing, unless sanitized in another fashion
• washing fruits and vegetables
• food or drink that will not be subsequently heated and
• making ice cubes
Residents should not drink from any public drinking fountains supplied with water from the public water supply. Under most circumstances, there is no need to boil water used for other household purposes. Adults, adolescents and older children may shower, bathe or wash using tap water, but should avoid swallowing the water. Laundry may be washed in tap water, either by hand or by machine. Ensure young children and infants are sponge bathed and use an alternative water source known to be safe.
This Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory remains in effect until the safety of the affected communities’ water supplies can be ensured.
