SENIORS CAN ENJOY FREE YEAR-ROUND PARK ENTRY AND FREE ANGLING THROUGH SENIORS GOLD PLAN

Released on May 16, 2007

Saskatchewan Environment is encouraging seniors to take advantage of the benefits of the Seniors’ Gold Plan, which was announced last year, and includes free seniors’ park entry and angling licences.

“Seniors have given so much to this province,” Environment Minister John Nilson said.  “We are pleased to be able to give something back in return to recognize the valuable contributions that seniors make, and to enhance their quality of life.”

Saskatchewan seniors, 65 and older, will receive a free park entry permit when they enter a provincial park upon providing identification verifying their age and residency.

Seniors will be required to pay for other park fees such as camping and swimming pool costs.  All people travelling in a passenger vehicle with a senior will also receive free entry to provincial parks.

Seniors who produce proof of age and Saskatchewan residency are also able to obtain a free angling licence from any of the over 1,000 angling licence vendors across the province.

Although the licence is free, seniors are required to carry it while fishing and meet all other fishing regulations, such as honouring catch limits and fishing seasons.

If a senior has already purchased an angling licence, they can get a refund by going to any Saskatchewan Environment office.

Seniors from out of province will be required to pay regular park entry fees and buy angling licences.

There is no expiry date on the Seniors’ Gold Plan.
