THOMSON ANNOUNCES FUTURE PLANS

Released on May 11, 2007

Finance Minister Andrew Thomson today announced he will not be seeking re-election in the next provincial election.  He will continue to represent the constituents of Regina South until then.

“As I look at Saskatchewan, 12 years after first being elected, I am impressed by the confidence I see in the province today,” Thomson said.  “Our economy is stronger, our taxes are significantly lower and our health care system is better.  This has been possible because of the leadership of our NDP government, the support of Saskatchewan people and the leadership provided by Premier Lorne Calvert.”

Thomson, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Regina South, was first elected in 1995, and was re-elected in 1999 and 2003.  He was first appointed to Cabinet in October 2001 and has had responsibility for a number of portfolios including Energy and Mines, Corrections and Public Safety, Information Technology, Learning and currently Finance.

“Andrew Thomson has been a dedicated and committed MLA,” Premier Lorne Calvert said.  “I welcome his continued contribution over the remainder of this term of government and wish him well in his future plans.”
