CEREMONY CELEBRATES PROGRESS ON PREECEVILLE INTEGRATED HEALTHCARE FACILITY

Released on May 10, 2007

Health Minister Len Taylor joined the people of Preeceville and the Sunrise Health Region today in celebrating an expansion project that will combine the Preeceville’s acute care, long-term care and other health services in one building.

The $10.4 million expansion will add 40 long-term care beds to the Preeceville Hospital building.  Construction of the new Preeceville Integrated Healthcare Facility is expected to be complete by late 2008.

Taylor, Sunrise board chair Ivan Peterson and Preeceville mayor Garth Harris joined former Preeceville Hospital board member Edgar Thorson in ceremonially turning the first shovel-load of earth.

“All regions of Saskatchewan need access to quality, sustainable health services,” Taylor said.  “By combining health services into an integrated facility, we are strengthening the future of health care in the Preeceville area.”

“Our board sees this facility anchoring health care services for the northwest part of the health region for generations to come,” Peterson said.

Thorson presented a cheque on behalf of his family for $100,000, to bring the amount raised locally to almost $2 million of the $3.6 million goal.

The expansion will replace long-term care provided at the Preeceville Lions Housing building.
