NEW CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBER APPOINTED TO SASKATCHEWAN LEGAL AID COMMISSION

Brent Gough, Q.C., has been appointed as the new chairperson of the Saskatchewan Legal Aid Commission, and Orlo Drewitz has been appointed as a new member.

“Brent Gough’s diverse experience and knowledge of the law will serve him well in his new role as chair,” Justice Minister Frank Quennell said.  “Orlo Drewitz brings a wealth of financial management experience to the board.  These two new members will be welcome and valuable additions to the Commission.”

Mr. Gough has been a partner with the firm of Hnatyshyn Gough since 1983.  He has served as a bencher with the Law Society and is active with the Saskatchewan Legal Education Society Inc.  Mr. Gough has also been a sessional lecturer at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law and Commerce on property and business law.  He has served as chair of the board of governors of St. Thomas More College, is vice-president of the Canadian Paraplegic Association (Saskatchewan) Inc. and does volunteer work for other community organizations.

Mr. Drewitz has been a partner with Hergott Duval Stack & Partners LLP Chartered Accountants in Saskatoon since January 2004.  He worked as a Chartered Accountant with the same company from March 1994 to December 2003.  Mr. Drewitz has served as a member of the board of directors of the Saskatoon Co-operative Association, was director of Finance for the 2004 Nokia Brier and is currently a member of the Professional Conduct Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants for Saskatchewan.

Other members of the Saskatchewan Legal Aid Commission are Karen Bright, Rod Crook, Victor Dietz, Robert Kennedy, Dexter Kinequon, Wendy Lemaigre, Alma Wiebe and Shirley Wolfe-Keller.
