OPENING DOORS TO PROCUREMENT

Released on March 21, 2007

A one-day trade show in Regina is making it easier for suppliers to do business with public sector agencies.

“The Purchasers’ Showcase brings together the business men and women who sell or provide goods and services with the public-sector agencies that want to buy goods and services from Saskatchewan suppliers,” Saskatchewan Property Management Minister Eldon Lautermilch said.  “The result is good value for the taxpayer and more opportunities for local businesses.”

Public sector agencies represented at the trade show include the two universities, SIAST, various Crown corporations and provincial government departments, and the municipal sector.  Saskatchewan’s public sector buys more than two billion dollars of goods, services and construction annually.

The Showcase also includes workshops with topics such as “Successful Bidding in the Public Sector” offering tips for putting together a successful tender.

The Purchasers’ Showcase is organized by Saskatchewan Property Management (SPM), the department responsible for procurement on behalf of provincial government departments and agencies.

SPM purchases roughly $100 million annually in goods and services on behalf of various government departments and agencies and nearly 80 per cent is supplied by Saskatchewan-based companies.
