The government is responding to growing demand for specialized diagnostic services with a commitment to a fifth MRI, to be housed at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, Health Minister Len Taylor announced today.
During the launch of 100th anniversary celebrations for St. Paul’s, Taylor also looked to the future. He confirmed that the new MRI will be installed, thanks to a commitment by the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation to raise the necessary funds to purchase the $3 million machine. The province is providing funding for renovations in preparation for the diagnostic device, and will cover ongoing operating costs.
“I am proud to announce that the government will expand the province’s capacity to provide diagnostic services,” Taylor said. “When installation is complete, our health care system will be able to handle up to 5,000 more patients each year. I want to thank the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation for agreeing to raise the funds for the purchase of a new MRI.”
“St. Paul’s Hospital has a long tradition of innovation and public service,” St. Paul’s Hospital board chair Rod Donlevy said. “The addition of an MRI reinforces the hospital’s role as a progressive acute care facility offering specialized services to the people in central and northern Saskatchewan.”
Representatives from Saskatoon Health Region and hospital founders the Grey Nuns, also took part in the ceremony to launch a year of celebrations for the hospital.
