JOB SECURITY REGULATIONS FOR CANADIAN FORCES RESERVISTS PUT IN PLACE

Regulations are now in place for legislation ensuring job security for Canadian Forces Reservists in Saskatchewan who volunteer for duty with the Canadian Forces. The regulations specify the required deadlines by which employees must notify their employers of intended leaves of absence for deployment.

"I'm very pleased that we have been able to make these changes to protect the jobs of reservists who volunteer to serve with Canada's armed forces," Labour Minister David Forbes said. "When members of the Canadian Forces Reserves brought this matter to the Government's attention we acted to provide the support we feel these men and women deserve. With these regulations, Saskatchewan becomes one of the first provinces in Canada to protect the civilian employment of Canadian Forces Reservists when they volunteer for duty."

Reservists who give their employer the required notice can now be confident that their service with the Canadian Forces, whether domestic or overseas, will not cause them to lose their job.

There are approximately 900 reservists in Saskatchewan and the laws to protect their employment apply to all provincially regulated jobs.
