Information Services Corporation (ISC) of Saskatchewan today honoured 53 Yorkton-area farm families with 2007 Century Family Farm Awards.
The awards were presented at the Yorkton Western Development Museum, to recognize each family for farming their land for the past 100 years or more.
"Family farms have made Saskatchewan a great place to live, work and raise families," Minister responsible for ISC Graham Addley said. "I congratulate all recipients on reaching the milestone of 100 years of farming the same land, and celebrate their many accomplishments and contributions to building a strong Saskatchewan economy."
The Century Family Farm Award was introduced in 1981 to honour Saskatchewan's farm families and their role in the development of the province. Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food and ISC first partnered on the awards in 2005 as part of the province's Centennial celebrations. This is the first year ISC has managed all aspects of the program.
"The family farm represents the traditions and heritage upon which Saskatchewan was built," ISC Chief Governance Officer and Acting Chief Financial Officer Bev Bradshaw said. "It's a privilege for ISC to be celebrating the achievements of these families, and recognizing the role their ancestors have played in shaping our province."
All recipients receive a colour copy of their family's original land grant or title, as well as a Century Family Farm Award certificate and a choice of one of three commemorative items: an etched glass figure, an indoor wall plaque or a gate sign. All three bear the Century Family Farm Award logo, the family farm name and its year of establishment.
In total, 367 farm families across Saskatchewan have qualified for a 2007 Century Family Farm Award. For a list of the Yorkton-area families that have been honoured, please see the attached backgrounder or visit www.isc.ca.
