SEIMA IS WORKING TOWARD A MORE REPRESENTATIVE WORKFORCE

Released on June 11, 2007

The Government of Saskatchewan today signed an agreement with the Saskatchewan Environmental Industry and Managers Association (SEIMA) to increase invovlement in environmental industry development opportunities for Saskatchewan Aboriginal people.

"The Aboriginal Employment Development Program (AEDP) creates a synergy where partners join with the Saskatchewan Government to create a more representative workforce in this province," First Nations and Métis Relations Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "We share a common vision in Saskatchewan where all families have the opportunity to succeed and realize their dreams of building a better future right here at home."

"Through our strategic plan, SEIMA expressly recognizes the value of promoting a representative environmental industry, and we intend to lead that charge," SEIMA board chair Jim Finnigan said. "This partnership with First Nations and Métis Relations is a major step toward producing that result, which will ultimately create a stronger, more vibrant economic sector in Saskatchewan, with new and bigger opportunities for everyone."

Today's signing is the 79th AEDP partnership agreement. Through the Aboriginal Employment Development Program, Saskatchewan is working to build a representative workforce in which First Nations and Métis people are represented at all occupational levels in proportion to their population numbers in the province.
