PROVINCE ANNOUNCES GIFT TO HONOUR THE PRINCESS ROYAL

Released on June 4, 2007

Premier Lorne Calvert announced today that the province is providing $2,500 to Parkland Therapeutic Riding Association (PTRA) and $2,500 to the Royal Regina Rifles Trust Fund.

The grants are being presented to mark the occasion of The Princess Royal's visit to Saskatchewan.

"The Princess Royal shows a great interest in helping others through her association with many charitable organizations," Calvert said. "Her spirit of generosity has inspired us to make these donations to two worthy Saskatchewan organizations."

The PTRA promotes therapeutic riding for the physically and mentally disabled. Participants experience muscle stimulation and benefit from improved posture, strength and flexibility. The Princess Royal, who visited the PTRA facilities in Yorkton on June 2, is President of the Riding for the Disabled Association in the United Kingdom.

The Royal Regina Rifles Trust Fund is a registered charity that provides funds for the efficiency, welfare and well-being of the Regiment and its members. The Princess Royal is Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Regina Rifles and attended the regiment's 100th anniversary dinner on June 2 in Regina.
