The people of Warman and surrounding areas will soon have access to increased recreational and cultural activities with a $2,596,340 Building Communities Program investment from the province of Saskatchewan. The funding will go toward the construction of a new project expected to house a wide range of recreational and cultural facilities.
The Building Communities Program is the largest per capita cultural and recreational infrastructure program in Canada.
"Investment in cultural and recreational infrastructure is crucial to building strong and enduring communities, especially for young people and families," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Sandra Morin said. "The new Warman Sport and Culture Village will provide economic opportunities for the area, now and into the future."
Minister Sandra Morin was in Warman today to announce funding for the Warman Sport and Culture Village project. The funding is part of a two-phase construction project that will feature an indoor skating arena, two soccer fields, a curling arena, fitness room and art gallery. The second phase will add space for more cultural infrastructure and a swimming pool.
"This is a great day for the Warman Sport & Cultural Village Campaign," Warman Multipurpose Facility Committee Campaign chairperson Keith Heinrichs said. "Our Volunteer Committee has worked extremely hard at raising funds to complete our dream. Having the ability to access additional funding from the Building Communities Program for such a project is a blessing. This additional funding will assist us in creating a facility that our residents and the surrounding communities will enjoy for many years. It is a great day for Sport, Culture and Recreation for Warman and surrounding area!"
The Building Communities Program is providing $100 million for cultural and recreational infrastructure over three years, beginning in 2006-07. The program seeks to ensure the sustainability of cultural and recreational infrastructure in communities throughout the province.
