SaskPower and Partner Technologies Inc. (PTI) have extended their strategic business partnership by signing a five-year agreement worth up to $80 million to provide SaskPower with transformers for electrical distribution. Under the agreement immediately in effect, Regina-based Partner Technologies Inc. will continue to provide SaskPower with 45 types of transformers used to distribute electricity throughout Saskatchewan.
"This agreement will benefit SaskPower, PTI and the entire province," Minister responsible for SaskPower John Nilson said. "Companies that supply SaskPower provide jobs. Additionally, they get an opportunity to become better at what they do. Local firms can also build on their sales to SaskPower by entering markets beyond Saskatchewan's borders."
PTI employs more than 90 people and is the largest privately-owned Canadian company that makes transformers for distributing electricity. Exports to customers outside Saskatchewan from its production plant in Regina account for about 60 per cent of PTI's sales.
"PTI now ships product worldwide but we remain committed to Saskatchewan and SaskPower," PTI president Caron Hopfner said. "In addition to making transformers, the company also repairs, re-uses or recycles transformers - benefiting the environment."
"SaskPower benefits greatly from this strategic business relationship with PTI," , SaskPower president and CEO Pat Youzwa said. "The advantages of availability, reliability and pricing that is both competitive and stable help SaskPower provide electricity that is safe, reliable, affordable and sustainable."
Since SaskPower's Quality Assurance and Supplier Development began 24 years ago, the corporation has purchased more than $5.1 billion in goods and services in Saskatchewan.
