Crops are generally reported in good to excellent condition, although some damage from summer storms occurred during the past week, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture and Food's weekly crop report.
Fall cereal crops are reported to be at least 91 per cent in good to excellent condition provincially, with 89 per cent of the crops at, or ahead of, normal development for this time of year. Spring cereal crops are at least 88 per cent in good to excellent condition, with 71 per cent of the crops at, or ahead of, normal development. Flax and canola crops are reported to be 90 and 83 per cent in good to excellent condition respectively, with over 64 per cent at, or ahead of, normal development. Mustard crops are reported to be 92 per cent at, or ahead of, normal development. Pulse crops are reported to be over 91 per cent in good to excellent condition, with 81 per cent of the crop reported to be at, or ahead of, normal development.
Topsoil moisture conditions on crop land decreased somewhat from last week, with 22 per cent of reporters rating conditions as surplus, compared to 25 per cent last week. The Rural Municipality of Round Hill, located north of North Battleford recorded the highest amount of rain during the past week, at 107 millimetres.
Over eight per cent of the 2007 hay crop has been cut, with an additional three and one half per cent baled or silaged.
The main sources of crop damage during the past week were gophers, flooding and disease.
