GOVERNMENT RESPONDS TO SGEU ANNOUNCEMENT

Released on January 31, 2007

Chair of the Cabinet Committee on Public Sector Compensation Glenn Hagel said today the government welcomes the announcement by the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees’ Union that they will be taking the recommendations from mediator Vince Ready back to their membership for a vote.

“We respect the SGEU’s ratification process, and as is normal at this stage of the bargaining process, no details of the terms of settlement will be released until this process is complete,” Hagel said.

The parties will work together to ensure an orderly return-to-work for union members who have been off the job.

No further comment is planned at this time.
