Construction on the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert got a boost today thanks to a $1,740,689 Building Communities Program investment from the province of Saskatchewan.
"Sport and cultural infrastructure plays a vital role in creating a strong sense of community identity," Prince Albert Northcote MLA Eldon Lautermilch said in Prince Albert today on behalf of Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Sandra Morin. "This Building Communities Program contribution to the Art Hauser Centre is an investment today that will pay off for decades to come."
Lautermilch and Prince Albert Carlton MLA Myron Kowalsky were on hand at the announcement today. The Art Hauser Centre is a sport, entertainment and banquet facility in the City of Prince Albert. The Building Communities Program investment will go towards the installation of a fire protection sprinkler system in the arena, along with a variety of upgrades to heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
"The improvements to the Art Hauser Centre will improve the quality of life for people in and around Prince Albert," Kowalsky said. "It's one more way we're making life better for individuals and communities in Saskatchewan."
"The Art Hauser Centre is the centerpiece of Prime Minister's Sports Park," Prince Albert Mayor Jim Scarrow said. "This important and significant contribution will help the City of Prince Albert commence the third phase of improvements and additions which will greatly enhance Prince Albert's major ice facility which is home of the Prince Albert Raiders."
"The renovations to the Art Hauser Centre has provided the city with a first class facility," Prince Albert Councillor John Swystun said. "On behalf of the board I would like to thank the provincial government for their support of phases one and two and making continuing improvement of this project a reality."
The Building Communities Program is providing $100 million for cultural and recreational infrastructure over three years, beginning in 2006-07. The program seeks to ensure the sustainability of cultural and recreational infrastructure in communities throughout the province. It is the largest per capita program of its kind in Canada.
