Four new community volunteers have been appointed to the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) board of trustees.
Darlene Bessey (Saskatoon), Cara Merasty (Pelican Narrows), Michael Crowter (White Fox) and Ranjith Narayanasamy (Regina) have accepted appointments. These new trustees join existing board members Lance Brown (Craik), Cheryl Bauer Hyde (Regina), Joe McKay (Canoe Lake) and Audra Young (Regina). The new CIF board includes a diversity of skills and extensive experience in the voluntary and human service sectors.
“The past and present Community Initiative Fund trustees have made a tremendous contribution to the people of Saskatchewan particularly for our youth,” Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Glenn Hagel said. “These grants have touched the lives of thousands and thousands of people by supporting the efforts of volunteer and community leaders who are making a difference in their communities. I am confident that the new board of trustees will help ensure that provincial funds continue to be allocated to where they will have the greatest benefit.”
The CIF began distributing grants in 1996 to provide benefits to Saskatchewan communities using a portion of the profits from the Regina and Moose Jaw casinos. The program is managed at arms-length from government by a voluntary board of trustees. In the 10 years since the CIF board was first established, the trustees have awarded over $65 million in grants to community projects across Saskatchewan that benefit children, youth and families.
