SaskWater tabled its 2006 Annual Report today in the Saskatchewan Legislature, outlining a productive year for one of the province’s newest commercial Crowns.
SaskWater has consistently increased its revenue since the introduction of the Safe Drinking Water Strategy in 2002. SaskWater did so again in 2006, posting a profit of $300,000.
“I’m pleased that SaskWater has continued to grow since becoming a commercial Crown in 2002,” Minister responsible for SaskWater David Forbes said. “By providing clean, safe water and quality service to its customers, SaskWater supports the government of Saskatchewan’s commitment to provide our citizens with the best quality of life in Canada.”
SaskWater’s revenues increased from $17.8 million in 2005 to $18.5 million in 2006.
“We’re standing on the doorstep of long-term financial stability as we continue to seek innovative, cost-effective ways to deliver quality water and wastewater services to Saskatchewan communities and industry,” SaskWater president Stuart Kramer said. “We’ve experienced five years of successive financial improvements, increasing our revenues by 28 per cent over this period of time.”
In 2006, SaskWater invested $5.6 million on capital infrastructure projects, remote monitoring and asset management. Major projects included upgrades at the Elbow water treatment plant, pipe relocation and primary main upgrade at the Saskatoon East treated water system, and a new wastewater treatment plant for the town of Fort Qu’Appelle.
SaskWater is committed to providing safe and reliable water and wastewater services to the people of Saskatchewan and looks forward to continued growth, to better serve the needs of the province.
