The Premier's Voluntary Sector Initiative (PVSI) released its 2006 report at an event in Regina today.
“The Joint Steering Committee members comprised of community volunteers and government employees have shown a tremendously positive collaborative spirit,” Premier Lorne Calvert said. “This collaboration with the voluntary sector is a leading example in our nation and will benefit Saskatchewan families for generations to come.”
The PVSI is a partnership between the government and the province’s voluntary sector. In the four years since it was established, the PVSI has resulted in a better understanding of the challenges facing each sector.
“The voluntary sector contributes over three billion dollars annually to the provincial economy, but its benefit to Saskatchewan families and communities is priceless,” Legislative Secretary and PVSI Co-chair Doreen Hamilton said. “Today’s report shows how very proud government is to work with the voluntary sector and to face the challenges of strengthening our future relationship together.”
Saskatchewan’s voluntary sector is a vibrant part of the Province’s way of life. The province has the nation’s highest rate of volunteerism at 54 per cent and the PVSI is taking action on challenges facing the voluntary sector so Saskatchewan will continue to lead the nation for generations to come.
“Saskatchewan’s non-profit organizations and incorporated charities contribute so much to our quality of life,” PVSI Co-chair and Director of Community Impact and Investments with the United Way of Regina Tracey Mann said. “Everyone in Saskatchewan has been positively influenced through the actions of the province’s voluntary sector. It is profoundly important to the people of this province.”
