Released on April 5, 2007
For the first time in Canadian history, thirty-two Saskatchewan municipal police members received Commissioned Officer designations in a ceremony at Government House.
“These commissions recognize the dedication and professionalism that characterize the police community in Saskatchewan,” Justice Minister Frank Quennell said.
Traditionally, the presentations of formal Commissions have been made to RCMP officers in recognition of their having achieved a senior rank. With the 2005 amendments to The Police Act, 1990, Saskatchewan became the first province to present Lieutenant Governor’s Commissions to senior ranking municipal police officers.
The police officers receiving these commissions are from the Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Estevan, Weyburn, Caronport, Dalmeny, Stoughton, R.M. of Corman Park, R.M. of Wilton, and File Hills First Nations police services.
