The Government of Saskatchewan is investing $1.8 million in capital improvements for facilities in the Provincial Parks system.
“Our Provincial Parks make life better for Saskatchewan families by providing rest, relaxation and fun in awe-inspiring natural surroundings,” Environment Minister John Nilson said. “This funding helps us improve the quality of the experience we offer park visitors so they can continue to enjoy the parks.”
The additional $1.8 million in capital funds will be used for upgrading key park infrastructure and recreational facilities. The major capital projects include completion of the Cypress Hills Visitors’ Centre and rebuilding washrooms at The Battlefords, Rowan’s Ravine and Echo Valley Provincial Parks. A number of smaller improvements will also be made at various parks across the province, including the electrification of 71 campsites distributed between Duck Mountain and Candle Lake Provincial Parks.
“Parks protect our natural heritage for future generations and provide recreational, educational and interpretive opportunities for Saskatchewan residents and visitors to our province,” Nilson said. “With 2.5 million visits in 2006, our Provincial Parks are also a significant part of the economy, creating local employment and investment opportunities.”
