ADDITIONAL BIG GAME MANAGEMENT LICENCES AVAILABLE

Released on September 12, 2006

Saskatchewan Environment is offering Big Game Management Licences to people who would like to hunt antlerless mule deer and antlerless white-tailed deer in the Saskatoon area. Antlerless deer are adult females or young animals born in the spring of 2006.

These licences are available in addition to the regular season licences offered by the department.

The Big Game Management Licences cost $20 each and are only valid in the Saskatoon Wildlife Management Zone. Licences are only available at the Saskatchewan Environment office in Saskatoon or by calling (306) 933-6240. Each hunter also needs a $10.90 Wildlife Habitat Certificate and may only use a weapon that the regular season allows, for example archery, muzzleloader or shotgun.

Hunters may purchase two licences at a time, each licence valid for one antlerless mule deer or antlerless white-tailed deer. The Big Game Management Licences are valid during the regular seasons.

Hunters are required to turn in the heads of all white-tailed and mule deer, including fawns, which are harvested with these licences to any Saskatchewan Environment Office to test for Chronic Wasting Disease. There is no charge for the test.

To track success of the program, hunters are asked to return all unused licences to the Saskatchewan Environment, Saskatoon Field Office, 112 Research Drive by January 1st, 2007.
