FIVE CITIZENS TO RECEIVE SASKATCHEWAN'S HIGHEST HONOUR

Lieutenant Governor Dr. Gordon Barnhart today announced the names of five recipients of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.

The Order of Merit is the province's highest honour. It recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the well-being of the province and its residents.

"Each recipient exemplifies excellence and dedication," Barnhart said. "These outstanding citizens are most deserving of this prestigious honour in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to Saskatchewan."

The 2006 recipients are:

• Calvin D. Abrahamson, O.C., Producer, Writer, Arts Administrator, Montmartre

• Anna G. Ingham, C.M., Retired Educator, Yorkton

• Dr. David L. Kaplan, C.M., Professor Emeritus, Saskatoon

• Lester D. Lafond, Business Entrepreneur, Saskatoon

• Dr. William A. Waiser, Professor, Saskatoon

Including the five new members, there have been 141 appointments to the Order of Merit since its inception in 1985.

The recipients will be invested into the Saskatchewan Order of Merit on November 1st, 2006 in Saskatoon.
