GRAND OPENING OF CENTURY PLAZA

Released on October 2, 2006

Today Saskatchewan Property Management (SPM) and Harvard Developments Inc. officially opened the offices at Century Plaza, a renewed downtown office space located in Regina's former Bay Building on the corner of 12th Avenue and Rose Street.

In 2004, SPM, in partnership with Harvard Developments Inc., purchased the building and became the development and leasing manager of a project that would transform the property into one of the finest, most energy efficient, environmentally responsive public buildings in Saskatchewan.

"SPM's partnership with Harvard Developments is an example of this government's innovative approach to urban renewal and development," Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Property Management Eldon Lautermilch said. "Century Plaza has set a new benchmark in public-sector building design, one that meets the challenge of building a greener, more prosperous future for Saskatchewan."

"Century Plaza is a showcase for sustainable building development," Harvard Developments President and CEO Paul Hill said. "As a leader in our community we are committed to environmental stewardship providing long term benefits not only to our environment but for the comfort and satisfaction of our tenants."

Century Plaza was designed to be a Green Building and is being considered for certification by the Canada Green Building Council under their trademark Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Nearly 85 per cent of the material removed from the former structure has been recycled. Century Plaza reduces its materials, energy and water impacts on the environment, while delivering a working environment considerate of employee comfort and satisfaction.

During the course of redevelopment, SPM and Harvard developed an ownership partnership, with SPM purchasing and renovating 67 per cent of the space within Century Plaza. Harvard Developments Inc. retained ownership of the remainder of the property as part of a condominium agreement with SPM.
