FIVE CITIZENS RECEIVE SASKATCHEWAN'S HIGHEST HONOUR

Released on November 1, 2006

Lieutenant Governor Dr. Gordon Barnhart invested five people into the Saskatchewan Order of Merit today.

The Order of Merit is the province's highest honour. It recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the well-being of the province and its residents.

"The five newest members of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit have excelled in a wide range of areas, but they share an uncommon commitment to high standards, a tremendous passion for their respective fields, and an unwavering dedication to the greater good," Barnhart said. "They are extraordinary role models and each is most deserving of Saskatchewan's highest honour."

The 2006 recipients are:

• Calvin D. Abrahamson, O.C., C.D.A., Producer, Writer, Arts Administrator, Montmartre

• Anna G. Ingham, C.M., Retired Educator, Yorkton

• Dr. David L. Kaplan, C.M., Professor Emeritus, Saskatoon

• Lester D. Lafond, Business Entrepreneur, Saskatoon

• Dr. William A. Waiser, Professor, Saskatoon

Including the five new members, 141 people have been invested into the Order of Merit since its inception in 1985. Recipients are recommended by the Saskatchewan Honours and Awards Council, an independent selection committee.
