Saskatchewan residents have until July 5th to nominate individuals for the province's highest honour, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.The Order of Merit recognizes individuals whose outstanding achievements have contributed significantly to the well-being of the province and its residents.
"It is a privilege to honour exceptional citizens with the Saskatchewan Order of Merit," Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock said. "These remarkable people, who exemplify excellence, dedication and generosity, have made immeasurable contributions to our province and beyond."
Any Saskatchewan resident, or former resident, is eligible for nomination, with the exception of current elected members of the Legislature or Parliament, and judges currently holding office. Nominations are accepted for individuals. Couples, groups or organizations cannot be nominated.
Posthumous nominations are accepted within one year of the date of the person's death.
The fields of endeavour recognized by this honour include: agriculture; business and industry; education and research; literary; visual and performing arts; occupational and professional achievement; and public and community service. Since its inception in 1985, 134 citizens have received the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.
