Saskatchewan Health Minister Len Taylor has announced the appointment of Dan Florizone as the new Chairperson of the province's Health Quality Council (HQC).The current CEO of Five Hills Health Region will replace Dr. Stewart McMillan. Florizone has served as Assistant Deputy Minister for Saskatchewan Health, and as CEO for both rural and urban health organizations throughout the province.
"Mr. Florizone will bring a wealth of health sector experience to the already impressive range of skills and expertise on the Health Quality Council board," Taylor said. "I am confident that under his direction, this group will continue to provide the leadership that has placed the HQC at the forefront in promoting quality improvement in a variety of areas across the health sector."
"I appreciate the opportunity to work in this challenging role on issues that affect every resident of our province, and look forward to working with the outstanding group of people associated with the Health Quality Council," Florizone said.

The Health Quality Council, the first agency of its kind in Canada, was established by the provincial government in 2002 as part of The Action Plan for Saskatchewan Health Care. In his 2001 report, consultant Ken Fyke recommended creation of an agency focused on improving the quality of care.
The Health Quality Council is an independent agency led by an appointed board of provincial, national and international health leaders. The HQC measures and reports on the quality of health care in Saskatchewan, and promotes improvements through partnerships with a wide variety of organizations. It received a 2006 Saskatchewan Healthcare Excellence Award (SHEA) in recognition of its innovative work.
