PREMIER ANNOUNCES INSTALLATION DATE OF LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

Premier Lorne Calvert announced today that the new Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Gordon Barnhart will be sworn in during a ceremony at the Legislative Building on August 1st, 2006.

"I look forward to Dr. Barnhart assuming the role as Saskatchewan's representative of the Queen," Calvert said. "I am confident he will bring warmth, dedication and a sense of history to the position of Lieutenant Governor and represent our province well."

Dr. Barnhart is a writer and a former University Secretary at the University of Saskatchewan. He has also served as the Clerk of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly and Clerk of the Senate.

Dr. Barnhart will be Saskatchewan's 20th Lieutenant Governor. Under the constitution, Lieutenant Governors are appointed by the federal government for a minimum of five years, but there is no fixed term of office.
