The Government of Saskatchewan is investing $500,000 to further develop Regina's Community Services Village where people can access a number of community programs and services at one location."This is an excellent opportunity for the government to join with the community in delivering a practical approach to combat child and family poverty," Finance Minister Andrew Thomson said on behalf of Community Resources Minister Buckley Belanger. "This one-time funding will support this new approach to provide people with access to a wide range of community programs and services so they can ultimately help themselves and improve their own lives."
"This major contribution by the Province of Saskatchewan provides a tremendous boost to our capital campaign," Campaign Chair Wilson Olive said. "It also confirms the government's shared vision with the Food Bank in the development of an integrated sustainable center for meeting social needs, building independent lives and strengthening families, all of which build greater hope in our community."
The new Community Services Village is home to a variety of human service agencies, including the Regina & District Food Bank, Regina Education & Action on Child Hunger (REACH), the Robert Usher Adult Education Centre, KidsFirst, First Years Day Care, Chip & Dale Housing and Community Action Co-operative Limited.
Saskatchewan Community Resources is also a tenant at the Village. It works with people to help them build better lives for themselves, and it administers programs that support employment, child development, independent living and affordable, quality housing for low- and moderate-income people.
