ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT LEADER NAMED SIAST BOARD CHAIR

Released on June 29, 2006

A Saskatchewan lawyer active in community and economic development has been named chair of the SIAST board of directors. Wilson H. Olive, a founding partner of Olive Waller Zinkhan & Waller in Regina, takes over as board chair from Christine Boyczuk. Olive and five other new directors were recently appointed to SIAST's board. Those new directors are Keith Hanson of Saskatoon, David Koester of Prince Albert, Jane Lindstrom of Regina, Gay Patrick of Esterhazy and Joan Popadynec of Saskatoon.

"SIAST plays a critical role in satisfying the training needs of Saskatchewan people and our strong economy," Advanced Education and Employment Minister Pat Atkinson said. "I look forward to a close working relationship with this new board that brings strong experiences from their sectors of our economy to ensure SIAST is responsive to Saskatchewan's labour market needs."

Christine Boyczuk, director of education for the Pense, Grand Coulee, Gray School Division, is retiring from the SIAST board after five years as chair.

"We're looking forward to working with Wil and with the new board members," SIAST president and CEO Dr. Bob McCulloch said. "They bring diverse perspectives and valuable governance expertise to their new roles. We'll miss Christine both for her wit and wisdom. As with her colleagues on the board, she has been passionate and visionary in her support of SIAST."

In addition to Boyczuk, several other SIAST board members completed their terms: Cheryl Bauer Hyde, Mike Hintze, Trevor Klassen, Keith Martell, Morris Onyskevitch and Garry Ramage.

SIAST is Saskatchewan's primary public institution for post-secondary technical education and skills training, recognized nationally and internationally for its expertise and innovation. Almost 12,000 students are registered in SIAST programs, which touch every sector of the economy; additionally, the organization draws more than 27,000 individual course registrations. It operates campuses in Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon, and provides a number of courses and programs through distance education.
