BASIC HEALTH INFORMATION NOW ON SASKATCHEWAN HEALTH WEBSITE

Released on June 26, 2006

Medically approved answers to basic health questions are now available on the Saskatchewan Health web site. Called HealthLine Online, this health information database provides another option for Saskatchewan people to be more engaged in their health care and the care of their families.

"We are excited to provide this new service to Saskatchewan people," Health Minister Len Taylor said. "This is the information age. People are taking control of how, when and where they get information, especially about their health. HealthLine Online provides medically approved health information that people can trust in a location that is easy to find."

HealthLine Online is a complementary component to the province's plan for primary health care, the first point of contact people have with the health care system. The plan includes primary health care teams, which offer co-ordinated access to an array of healthcare providers, and HealthLine, a telephone health advice line staffed by Registered Nurses and available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Each component of the plan ensures people have access to the right provider, and the right information, when they need it.

For more information, visit HealthLine Online at www.health.gov.sk.ca.
