MAXIMUM INCOME LIMITS INCREASE

More people will be eligible for affordable housing programs thanks to an increase to Saskatchewan Housing Corporation's (SHC) Maximum Income Limits (MILs). MILs determine eligibility for SHC's Affordable Housing Programs and the Centenary Affordable Housing Program (CAHP).

"The revised Maximum Income Limits will provide more low to moderate-income people with greater access to quality, affordable housing," Community Resources Minister Buckley Belanger said. "This is one of the key priorities of HomeFirst, our five-year provincial housing strategy."

For a family in southern Saskatchewan, the MIL increased from $39,500 to $44,500. For a family in a remote northern community, the MIL increased from $49,500 to $62,000. The revised MILs are effective immediately.

Households with incomes above MILs are considered to have enough income to be able to access housing through the private market without government assistance.

MILs had not been reviewed since their establishment in 2002. This increase is in response to changing market circumstances, most notably rising housing costs.
