The excitement begins on July 16th as the Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) officially kicks off RSM Week and invites everyone to help celebrate 100 Years of Discovery."Centennials are something Saskatchewan does well, and celebrating 100 years of Saskatchewan's award winning museum is indeed exciting," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Glenn Hagel said. "July 16th to 22nd has been selected as the week to invite the community and tourists to enjoy opportunities that are not offered every day."
RSM Week celebrations begin Sunday, July 16th with a parade at 2:00 p.m. starting from Wascana Place in Regina. The parade will head north on Broad Street, and finally west on College Avenue to the RSM. At the museum there will be a ceremony with Mayor Pat Fiacco as the master of ceremonies. Her Honour, Dr. Lynda Haverstock, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan will preside. Dignitaries include provincial and federal officials, Mrs. Ruby Apperley, long-standing Royal Saskatchewan Museum alumni, members of the RCMP and Regina City Police and representatives from First Nations and Métis communities.
"The week's activities will provide something for every visitor to enjoy," RSM Week Committee Chairperson Keith Roney said. "There will be exterior architectural tours, demonstrations on how plants and insects are prepared for museum displays, historical museum films, and Aboriginal cultural presentations such as cattail doll-making and stone tool-making. There will even be behind the scenes tours."
Established when the province was not yet a year old, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum is proud to celebrate 100 years of service through stewardship.
