MEMBERS APPOINTED TO SASKATCHEWAN ARTS BOARD

Released on July 10, 2006

Six new members have been appointed to the Saskatchewan Arts Board, which provides a wide range of services that enable Saskatchewan residents to experience and enjoy the arts.

New members include: Vice-Chair David Barnard, Rita Bouvier, Anne Reinhardt, Merle Sherwin, Lori Dean and Jaime Doering. Ken Sagal, who has been active in Saskatchewan's volunteer sector for over 20 years, has been appointed chair of the Saskatchewan Arts Board. He takes over from Colleen Bailey, a leader in the arts community for over 30 years, who passed away earlier this year.

"Our arts sector is an important component in building dynamic, vibrant and attractive communities. I'm pleased that these knowledgeable people have agreed to provide their expertise and time to the work of the Saskatchewan Arts Board," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Glenn Hagel said. "I would like to thank outgoing members Gursh Madhur, Maggie Siggins, Louise Halfe, and James Korpan for their dedication to the arts in Saskatchewan. I would also like to recognize Colleen Bailey, who was one of the strongest supporters of our province's cultural sector. She will be missed."

The Saskatchewan Arts Board key initiatives include advocacy for the arts, grant administration, arts education, indigenous arts initiatives, advisory and consulting services and managing the permanent art collection.

Saskatchewan Arts Board appointments come from the arts sector and include representation from the First Nations and Métis cultures, youth, artists and volunteers from across the province. Board members are appointed for two year terms.
