This weekend, July 8th and 9th, is Saskatchewan's annual Free Fishing Weekend. That means anyone, including people from outside the province, can fish in Saskatchewan without having to buy a licence."With our abundance of lakes and rivers, we in Saskatchewan have some of the best fishing in the world," Environment Minister John Nilson said. "This weekend is an excellent opportunity for people and their families to learn about and to enjoy the sport of fishing and to recognize the importance of our fish and aquatic resources."
On average, more than 250,000 people fish in Saskatchewan each year, including more than 35,000 out-of-province anglers.
Anglers are reminded that Saskatchewan's Free Fishing Weekend does not apply in national parks and that all other fishing regulations still apply. Anglers from out-of-province can fish as part of Free Fishing Weekend. However, if you are planning to transport fish out of the province you must purchase a fishing licence. Anglers fishing on Lac La Ronge are still required to be in possession of a Lac La Ronge endorsement, which can be picked up free of charge at local fishing vendors.

Free Fishing Weekend coincides with the beginning of Saskatchewan's Parks Week, July 9th – 15th, inclusive, giving people another excellent reason to visit one of our many provincial parks.
