Lieutenant Governor Dr. Lynda Haverstock along with Regina Rosemont MLA Joanne Crofford celebrated alongside the winners of the third annual Heritage Poster Contest for Saskatchewan Students. The Award presentations took place today at the Legislature as part of Heritage Week.
This year's award recipients were:

Junior Category -- Aleah Anseth, Grade 6, Cut Knife Elementary, Cut Knife
Intermediate Category -- Sara Kruger, Grade 8, St. Paul's School, Yorkton
Senior Category -- Rob Renner, Grade 12, Greenal High School, Balgonie
"The preservation of our heritage sites is vitally important," Haverstock said. "Our historic buildings and places give people greater insight into how the past, the present and the future are connected. The Heritage Poster Contest encourages young people to learn about and appreciate an important link to our fascinating history and our remarkable ancestors."
Over 100 students in Grades 1 to 12 from communities across the province submitted a hand-crafted poster featuring a historic place in Saskatchewan with a written statement telling why the place is significant to them. Award recipients were chosen by an independent jury made up of members of the Saskatchewan Heritage Advisory Board and the Saskatchewan Arts Board.

"In this province we are surrounded by a rich heritage," Regina Rosemont MLA Joanne Crofford said on behalf of Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Glenn Hagel. "I want to thank and congratulate the students who participated in the Heritage Poster Contest for helping tell the stories of historic places that are the foundation of our province."
The third annual Heritage Poster Contest for Saskatchewan Students is put on by the Heritage Resources Branch of Saskatchewan Culture, Youth and Recreation with the assistance of Saskatchewan Learning, the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation.
