SASKATCHEWAN ATHLETES TAKE TO THE WORLD STAGE

The Government of Saskatchewan sends its congratulatory best wishes to all Saskatchewan's athletes and coaches on Team Canada as the 2006 Olympic Winter Games open today in Italy.

About 1.5 million spectators are expected at the Olympic Games being held February 10th to 26th. The Paralympic Winter Games will follow from March 10th to 19th.

Saskatchewan has 19 athletes, two coaches and one assistant coach on Canada's Olympic team.

"Best of luck to our Saskatchewan athletes. The whole province is excited and proud of how hard you have worked and the sacrifices that it has taken for you to be competing at the Olympic level," Premier Lorne Calvert said. "I'm sure many of us will be watching the coverage closely and rooting for our athletes as they compete on the international stage. We hope you achieve your goals, but whatever the outcome you are all winners to us."

Saskatchewan's athletes and coaches at the 2006 Olympics:

- In Bobsleigh: Morgan Alexander of Regina; Ken Kotyk of Rama; and Jamie Cruickshank of Saskatoon;
