CLINE ANNOUNCES FUTURE PLANS

Released on December 15, 2006

Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline today announced he will not be seeking re-election in the next provincial election. He will continue to represent his constituents and remains in Cabinet until then.

"This government is making life better for Saskatchewan families under the leadership of Premier Calvert and I look forward to continuing to serve in his government," Cline said. "In my first speech to the Legislature, I said that I came here to represent my neighbours. As I now prepare to leave politics, I look back with pride that since 1991, this government has restored the fiscal health of the province with the people of Saskatchewan, creating economic prosperity and we continue to use that progress to look after all our neighbours."

Cline, the MLA for Saskatoon Massey Place, was first elected in 1991, and was re-elected in 1995, 1999 and 2003. He was first appointed to Cabinet in November 1995 and has had responsibility for a number of portfolios including Health, Labour, Finance, Justice and Industry and Resources.

"Eric Cline has been a dedicated, committed MLA and a strong minister who has made a crucial contribution to our province," Premier Lorne Calvert said. "During his time as Minister of Finance, Eric oversaw personal income tax reform resulting in the largest tax cuts in Saskatchewan history, one of the many ways he has served the people of Saskatoon and Saskatchewan. While he will be sorely missed, I welcome his continued contribution over the remainder of this term of government and wish him well in his future plans."
