Released on April 7, 2006
Premier Lorne Calvert today announced changes to deputy minister appointments within the Saskatchewan public service. Effective April 10th, 2006, Bonnie Durnford will assume the role of Deputy Minister of Advanced Education and Employment; Wynne Young will assume the position of Deputy Minister of Learning; and Duncan Fisher will be appointed as the new Deputy Minister of Community Resources.
Bonnie Durnford joined the provincial public service in 1986. She has held a number of senior positions in the Department of Social Services, and most recently served as Deputy Minister of Learning.
"This government recognizes the importance of linking education and training to employment – not just for Saskatchewan residents, but for newcomers to the province as well," Calvert said. "Ms. Durnford has the experience and vision needed to lead the new department and move this agenda forward, and I look forward to her contribution in this new role."
Wynne Young will move to the Department of Learning, having recently served as Deputy Minister of Community Resources and Employment. Prior to that appointment, she served as Chair of the Public Service Commission for seven years.
"Ms. Young will bring her expertise and talent to the Learning portfolio, which includes the key government priority focus of early learning and childcare," Calvert said. "I am confident that the leadership she demonstrates with respect to our early learning agenda will be a tremendous asset for the province."
In addition, Premier Calvert is pleased to welcome Duncan Fisher as the new Deputy Minister of Community Resources. Fisher most recently served as an Assistant Deputy Minister with the Department of Health, and has held a number of senior positions with the Government of Saskatchewan, including Assistant Deputy Minister of Social Services.
"I am pleased that Mr. Fisher has accepted this challenging and exciting position," Calvert added. "His extensive experience with the provincial public service and human services sector, as well as his understanding and appreciation of the issues, will serve him well in his new role."
