Saskatchewan Justice will provide a $100,000 grant to the University of Saskatchewan, College of Law building expansion project.
"This grant is an investment in the future of our province," Justice Minister Frank Quennell said. "The University of Saskatchewan, College of Law is the leader in Canada in the education of Aboriginal lawyers. One of the goals of our government is to see First Nations and Métis peoples employed in all aspects of the justice system."
Quennell said the expansion will better accommodate the needs of the Native Law Centre, improving opportunities for Aboriginal students to study law.
The building expansion will allow for state-of-the-art classrooms with multi-media capabilities, enhanced student support services, faculty and administrative offices and improved student areas.
Quennell congratulated the College on leading an excellent fund-raising campaign. "I am pleased that Saskatchewan Justice is part of this initiative."
The expansion project is expected to cost between $7.5 and $8 million and is scheduled to open in 2007.
