The quality of care for patients and residents in the Assiniboia area has been improved. Health Minister John Nilson participated in the official opening ceremony today of a 22-bed long-term care addition to the Assiniboia Union Hospital.
"Assiniboia and area gain a long-term care facility that has the comforts of home, but with all the benefits of being attached to a hospital," Nilson said. "The architecture, design and location make this facility truly a home. And the benefits for residents and health workers of having health care under one roof mean that our investment in health care will pay off for decades to come."
The addition consists of two pods, each with 11 private bedrooms, shared dining and living space, with fireplaces in the common areas.
Planning and construction costs for the project were $4 million, with Saskatchewan Health contributing $2.5 million and the health region contributing $1.5 million, most of it provided by the Town of Assiniboia.
"The Health Authority was very pleased to complete a project that originated with the vision of the Minister and the former South Country District Health Board," Five Hills Regional Health Authority chairperson Dale Toni said. "The residential style environment contributes to the quality of life for the residents."
The construction tender was awarded to a local company, Leeville Construction.
