SASKTEL AMONG CANADA'S TOP 100 EMPLOYERS

Released on October 18, 2005

Minister responsible for SaskTel Maynard Sonntag announced today that SaskTel has once again been named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers. This honour recognizes outstanding Canadian employers that lead the way in attracting and retaining quality employees.

"SaskTel has for years now remained at the head of its industry and the province as a corporation that values its people," Sonntag said. "This award is truly an honour to the dedication and commitment of the employees at SaskTel and I would like to congratulate them on achieving this prestigious designation for the sixth year in a row."

"SaskTel is one of the companies that is perennially strong in many aspects of business, community and treatment of employees," Richard Yerema, Editor Canada's Top 100 Employers said. "Training, education, benefits and communication have been among SaskTel's highest rating categories year after year. SaskTel is also recognized as one of the few telecommunications companies that has not experienced significant upheaval in the past few years, and in fact, has thrived through expansion. The history of volunteerism within the corporation and their role in the Saskatchewan community continues to be very strong and was another important factor in the selection process."

The list is compiled each year by Mediacorp Canada Inc., which publishes job-hunting periodicals, including Canada Employment Week. For this year, 7,500 Canadian employers were invited to complete an extensive application process and more than 1,200 companies did so. Companies who make the list are then profiled in the Canada's Top 100 Employers book, which hits bookstores in mid-October. In the book, Mediacorp grades the organizations in seven areas, including the physical workplace, work and social atmosphere, as well as health, financial and family benefits. The book also reveals the employer's internal grades for each of these areas and the reasons why each employer was selected.
