CAPTURING TIMELESS CENTENNIAL MEMORIES

Released on October 13, 2005

The province's centennial year will create lifelong memories for many. Now Saskatchewan residents will have an opportunity to share those memories with future generations.

Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 and Canadian Western Agribition are teaming up to create the Centennial Time Capsule, which will be filled with treasures from the year 2005.

"While the centennial is a time to reflect upon our past and dream about our future, it's also a time to celebrate the here and now in this province known for 100 years of heart," Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 Chair and Moose Jaw North MLA Glenn Hagel said. "We want people from across the province to send objects for the time capsule that best reflect who we are today, our lifestyle in 2005 and the spirit of Saskatchewan people."

All entries received, as well as the name and location of the person submitting the entry will be displayed at Canadian Western Agribition Tuesday, Nov. 22nd, 2005. A panel of judges will then select 2,005 items that best represent Saskatchewan and its people in our centennial year. Those items will be stored in the Centennial Time Capsule, which will be displayed at the Regina Exhibition Park. The Centennial Time Capsule will be opened in 2020, when the Canadian Western Agribition celebrates its 50th anniversary.

"We have been successfully showcasing Saskatchewan to the rest of the world for 35 years and want to give people even one more reason to visit Agribition during the province's centennial year," Canadian Western Agribition General Manager Leon Brin said. "Whether it's a keepsake from the Sept. 4th party of the century, an essay that describes your hometown, your ranch's brand or the fashion of the day, we want to see it all."

Schools and communities may set up a central collection point and invite people to submit items for the Centennial Time Capsule. From the entries they receive, each participating school may select one item for guaranteed inclusion in the Centennial Time Capsule. Communities may forward up to ten items for consideration. Schools and community groups are encouraged to keep the remaining items that they have collected to create their own centennial time capsule.

All entries should be sent to Canadian Western Agribition, Attention Centennial Time Capsule; PO Box 3535, Regina, SK S4P 3J8. Entries must be received by November 14th, 2005.
